HOW TO FIND US

The Reading Society of Model Engineers is based at Prospect Park, Reading. We are located in a 'corner' of the park near the junction of Liebenrood Road and Bath Road (West of Inglewood Court).

FROM THE WEST

From the A4/M4, Junction 12 (Theale) follow the A4 to Reading. After approximately 3 miles you will see Prospect Park on your left. With Prospect Park on your left, you will then see a 'Honda' dealer garage on your right, our entrance is then on the left shortly after passing the 'Honda' garage.

FROM THE EAST

From Reading, follow the A4 out of Reading towards Newbury, you will pass 'over' a Railway bridge immediately beyond a set of traffic lights, and then shortly afterwards 'pass over' a small roundabout. As you 'pass over' roundabout, 'The Southcote' pub/restaurant will be on your left. After approximately 600yds there is another set of traffic lights, go straight across and our entrance is approximately 200yards on your right.

FROM THE  NORTH or SOUTH

From Oxfordshire, it is probably best to come into Reading and then follow the directions above for "FROM THE EAST".

From Hampshire, it is probably best to join the M4 at junction 11 and head West toward Newbury, then leave at Junction 12 and follow the directions above for "FROM THE WEST".

For 'local' visitors, drive into Reading and follow the directions for "FROM THE EAST".

In all cases, if it is easier to join the M4 and then leave at Junction 12 (Theale) you will find it a 'straight' road to follow the directions for "FROM THE WEST".

Our entrance, when approaching from either the East or West is well hidden by foliage (especially in summer).

The photo above shows that access to our site is an entrance off the Bath Road (A4) approximately 200 yards West of the traffic lights at the 'top' of Liebenrood Road.

The plan below (not to scale) shows the layout of our site.

The Track

The track now consists of a 5", 3½" & 2.½" multi gauge 1050 ft long raised track laid about 30 years ago and the new ground level track with 7¼" and 5" gauges approximately 1300 ft long. The new track has been laid during the last four years and the main loop was completed in under one year. The track diagram shows the layout which has quite a lot of wooded areas and includes a 1 in 90 bank up through the woods. Take a pictorial 'trip' around the ground level track by 'clicking' here.
